Intro

The Chair for System Security is always interested in outstanding PhD/PostDoc candidates as well as excellent students for system administration work and assistance in our research projects.

Our research focuses on the following areas:

  • security architectures
  • cryptographic protocols (zero knowledge authentication, privacy-preserving, multi-party computations..)
  • network security (secure channels, authentication, covert channels, ...)
  • operating system security (secure virtualization, OS design, ..)
  • trusted computing (trusted channels, attestation, architecture, ..)
  • hardware and embedded security (PUFs, RFIDs, wireless sensor networks, smart phone security)

In particular, we currently have open positions in the following R&D projects:

Hardware Security and/or Cryptographic Protocols (PhD or Post-Doc Position)

We are looking for an outstanding PhD/PostDoc candidate within the European Research Project UNIQUE. The main goals of UNIQUE are the design, analysis methodologies, construction and implementation of various Physically Unclonable Functions (PUFs), hardware Trojans and countermeasures as well as hardware-entangled cryptography. For more information about UNIQUE see the project webpage.

Applicants are expected to hold a Master's degree in electrical engineering or computer science and be interested to do research in theory and practice of cryptography, in particular hardware-oriented cryptography. It is beneficial for applicants to have some hardware background.

Given the international character of our work, applicants are expected to collaborate with our partner institutions and enterprises and to travel to research and project meetings abroad.

Cryptography Engineering and Security Architectures (PhD or PostDoc Positions)

Applicants are required to extend and/or enhance their skills in (some of) the following fields: cryptography, applied number theory, cryptographic protocols, network security, operating system security, compiler/language design and implementation.

We have several projects covering theoretical and practical areas of system security and cryptography. Given the international character of our work, applicants are expected to collaborate with our partner institutions and to travel to research meetings abroad.

IT-Security Architects (Technical Assistants/HiWis)

We are looking for several assistants for technical projects dealing with the development of proof-of-concept prototypes for our research projects.

Requirements:

Good programming skills in C/C++ and solid background in at least one of the following areas:

  • Operating systems, particularly Linux (virtualization, system programming, administration )
  • IT-security/cryptography
  • Trusted Computing
  • Communication protocols/networks (TCP/IP, IPsec, ..

System Administration (HiWis)

We are looking for system administrators for our research lab and institute network.

Requirements:

  • System and network administration with Linux
  • Linux shell scrips, Python, ...
  • Windows user support (basic Outlook, Office)
  • ...

How to apply:

Your application should include your current curriculum vitae, MSc/Diploma certificates and grades and a letter of motivation stating your interest in the position. PhD and PostDoc candidates should also include their research interests and at least one letter of recommendation, Applicants for PhD or PostDoc are expected to hold a Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field.
